Free Will and Quantum Indeterminacy

February 5, 2013

As I mentioned in class, Robert Kane argues that we can find a vindication of the idea of free will at the level of quantum physics.

Kane’s position is known as libertarianism, though it has nothing to do with the political movement of the same name. To be clear, Kane’s position is difficult for me to pin down. Even after reading his magnum opus on this topic and having a very pleasant lunch with him one day in Canada, I still can’t quite put my finger on what he thinks. YMMV.
