“Listen: Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time.”

February 20, 2013

We talked very briefly in class about Kurt Vonnegut‘s Slaughterhouse-Five.

If you haven’t read it, read it, If you have read it, read it again. That’s really all I have to say about the matter.

There’s also a movie based on the novel, though I’ve not seen it. I can’t see how film could live up to the promise of the book, but if anyone has a strong positive recommendation I’ll reconsider.

You might also want to read Vonnegut’s Rules for Reading Fiction. His Advice to a New Teacher is amusing, though you should be warned that it contains some lamentable racist slang which was quite common when this letter was written (1967).
